Free clothing and coaching to help you get the job
SmartWorks is a UK-wide charity offering free interview-appropriate clothing and interview preparation support to all women who are unemployed or on a zero-hours contract. This is an entirely free service and open to any woman, or someone who identifies as a woman, from Birmingham / West Midlands who is currently unemployed and has a confirmed job interview for paid employment or an apprenticeship.
All their high-quality clothes are donated by other women or retailers, and their styling and coaching is delivered by a skilled volunteer team. Since launching in summer 2016, they have supported over 4,000 women at Smart Works Birmingham and 69% have gone on to get a job. In 2022, they introduced the Career Coaching service that has proved to be very useful in helping clients to secure an interview.
