Raising Awareness During Dementia Action Week 2025

Posted on: 19 May 25

We’re proud to once again support Dementia Action Week, taking place between 19th and 25th May.

It’s important that all of us act on any warning signs of dementia – for ourselves as well as loved ones – and we warmly encourage our tenants to be mindful of any potential symptoms of memory loss. If you’re worried, you can speak to your GP, seek advice online through Alzheimer’s Society, or get in touch with your Housing Officer.

What Is Dementia Action Week?

Designed to raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis for those affected by dementia, Dementia Action Week is a nation-wide campaign run by Alzheimer’s Society every May.

What Happens During Dementia Action Week 2025?

This year’s Dementia Action Week has the theme of early diagnosis for dementia and is focussed on diagnosis and educating people on the most common symptoms of dementia.

While everyone experiences dementia on an individual basis and different types of dementia affect people differently, there are common early signs and symptoms of dementia.

Common early signs and symptoms of dementia, include:

  • Memory loss
  • Difficulties concentrating or planning
  • Language and communication issues
  • Difficulties understanding what is being seen
  • Confusion about time or place
  • Mood changes

Common signs and symptoms of dementia as it progresses, include:

  • Aggressive behaviour
  • Disturbed sleep
  • Walking around
  • Lack of insight
  • Delusions

You can read more on the symptoms of dementia and how you can get a diagnosis, here.

Diagnosis is vital as it gives people access to the care, treatment and support they need. At the moment, though, 1 in 3 people with dementia don’t have a diagnosis.

During Dementia Action Week in May, there will be community-led activities and access to advice and information throughout the week. Furthermore, there are resources available to download to help spread the word about the importance of early dementia diagnosis.
