Help Us Support Gas Safety Week This September!

Posted on: 05 Sep 25

This year’s Gas Safety Week takes place from 8th to 14th September, and we want as many of our tenants as possible to join us in raising awareness about the importance of gas safety checks and keeping homes gas safe.

Gas Safety Week is an all-industry national safety campaign run by Gas Safe Register and has been running for over a decade. This year’s theme is “Looking after your home, friends, and family”.

Over the years, this UK-wide campaign has had a positive impact on people’s lives by spreading the word about the importance of gas safety checks and being vigilant in the home. It’s crucial to get the message out about keeping gas appliances safe, as failure to do so can have devastating consequences.

What Is Gas Safety Week?

Gas Safety Week is an annual campaign aimed at raising awareness of gas safety in both homes and businesses.

More than a thousand people are affected by carbon monoxide poisoning each year, and unfortunately, many of these cases can be fatal. By being gas safe and aware of the danger signs, we can help reduce this number significantly.

Will You Join Us For Gas Safety Week 2025?

We are encouraging all tenants to come together and support Gas Safety Week 2025. By doing so, we not only raise awareness but also support one another and our local communities in ensuring safe living conditions.

Nehemiah Is Here To Help & Support

At Nehemiah, our priority is to make sure all our tenants live in safe, comfortable homes. A critical part of this is ensuring that gas appliances are regularly checked and maintained.

Unsafe gas appliances can lead to a range of serious risks, including:

  • Gas leaks
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Fires
  • Explosions

As part of your tenancy agreement, we service your gas appliances once a year to ensure they are functioning properly and safely. However, it’s also important that tenants allow access for these safety checks and do not ignore letters notifying them of upcoming services.

Why You Should Never Ignore a Gas Appliance Service Letter

As a tenant, ignoring or refusing access for gas appliance servicing is not just unsafe—it could also be a breach of your tenancy agreement. If a tenant fails to allow access for a safety check, landlords can claim damages for the breach of contract, especially if the lack of servicing leads to dangerous conditions or an incident.

It’s essential to understand that gas safety isn’t just a legal requirement; it’s a moral responsibility to ensure the safety of everyone in your home. Ignoring these checks can lead to catastrophic consequences, so we urge all tenants to comply with requests for safety checks and appliance servicing.

Gas Safety Tips

Here are some simple steps you can take to ensure your home remains gas safe:

  • Check your gas appliances every 12 months – as part of your tenancy agreement, we service your fitted gas appliances once a year.
  • Always use a Gas Safe Registered engineer for installations and services. Never allow an unqualified individual to work on your gas appliances.
  • Check the engineer’s Gas Safe ID card to confirm their qualifications.
  • Know the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning – symptoms include headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, collapse, and loss of consciousness.
  • Look out for warning signs on gas appliances – a yellow rather than blue flame, black marks on or around the appliance, and excessive condensation in the room could indicate a problem.
  • Make sure your carbon monoxide alarm is working.
  • Keep vents and chimneys clear to ensure proper ventilation.

If you’re unsure about the condition of any gas appliances or want to have your gas boiler checked, please call our Repair Line at 0800 849 1400 or 03030 301 000 from your mobile.
