We’re Supporting Debt Awareness Week 16-22 March 2026
Posted on: 16 Mar 26
Nehemiah Housing is delighted to be supporting and raising awareness of this year’s Debt Awareness Week, taking place between 16th and 22nd March.
This campaign takes place every year organised by the charity Step Change and provides an important opportunity to speak out about debt and raise awareness of the help and support that is available for those experiencing debt.
We want all our tenants to make the most of Debt Awareness Week and use it as an opportunity to open up to loved ones and friends about their finances and any debt concerns they may have, and to seek the support needed.
What Is Debt Awareness Week?
Debt Awareness Week is an annual campaign run by Step Change, the UK’s leading debt charity. It is designed to raise awareness of debt, reduce the stigma associated with debt, and encourage people to open up about debt and access support.
The theme for 2026 is ‘Debt doesn’t define you’. This year’s campaign wants people to realise that debt can affect anyone and there should be no shame associated with it. Too often, people don’t access the help they need because of shame and Step Change wants to give people the confidence to chat to loved ones and friends about their debt situation and find the support they need.
What Will Happen During Debt Awareness Week 2026?
Throughout the week of 16th to 22nd March, you will be encouraged to start conversations about debt and to challenge harmful associations with debt. Let those close to you know that there is no shame in experiencing debt and that it is more common than people think – and help and support are available to tackle debt too.
Step Change will be active on social media during Debt Awareness Week, posting on various sites including TikTok and Reddit, reaching out and encouraging real chats about people’s money worries. The charity will also share the results of its latest research on debt and will run awareness sessions and webinars with their partners to help people recognise the signs of debt and seek support.
In addition, Step Change will engage MPs and policy makers directly to highlight the key issues on debt and find effective ways to support people.

Nehemiah Is Here To Help & Support
We are committed to providing affordable, comfortable and supportive housing, and want all our tenants to be able to live free from money worries. This is why we’re encouraging as many of our tenants as possible to open up about any debt worries and seek help or to help others during Debt Awareness Week, by chatting to family and friends about debt matters.
As well as help from Step Change, we also partner with Birmingham Settlement, a local charity that helps Nehemiah tenants by providing advice and help to find work, access training and get the support you need to live debt free.
To speak to us about any debt-related worries you have or to access Birmingham Settlement, you can contact your Housing Officer or call us on 0121 358 0966 or email contact@nehemiah.co.uk and we will do all we can to help.
