The Importance Of Supporting Each Other’s Mental Wellbeing
Posted on: 11 May 26
At the heart of all we do at Nehemiah is our supportive communities – we want all our tenants to feel comfortable and welcomed within our housing as we understand just how important it is to feel mentally positive and to take care of our mental wellbeing.
Why Is Mental Health So Important?
It is estimated that approximately 1 in 5 adults in the UK suffer from a mental health condition such as anxiety or depression. Poor mental health is thought to be one of the main causes of workplace absence and the reason millions of workdays are missed, too.
By taking care of our mental health, we can help to prevent us becoming unwell in the first place. We all face challenges at times but by being aware of what makes us feel good, we can increase our feelings of mental wellbeing.
We at Nehemiah intend to make the most of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week in May to really encourage everyone to come together and take action to support good mental health – for us as individuals and for us as a community.
What Is Mental Health Awareness Week?
Organised by the Mental Health Foundation for the last 25 years, Mental Health Awareness Week is an annual week-long campaign to highlight the importance of good mental health. It also challenges stigma and encourages people to take small steps to support their own mental health and wellbeing.
The theme for this May’s campaign is ACTION and the focus is on taking action for yourself, for someone else, and even for all of us. Simply by finding one thing that boosts your mental health can make a massive difference to your overall wellbeing and helping others create communities that are mentally healthy has a positive effect on everyone. Furthermore, those in power need to take action to support good mental health for all in the UK.
Awareness is important but real change only comes from the action we take.
This year, Mental Health Awareness Week is taking place between 11th and 17th May, and we would love as many tenants as possible to come together and join us.
During the week, there will be events taking place across the country, including Wear It Green Day on Thursday 14th May. This is a fun way to raise awareness about mental health and raise funds for the great work the Foundation does. You can find out more about the day, here.
