Scam Awareness Week 2023

We are proud to support Scam Awareness Week 2023 to raise awareness of scams and the importance of being alert in order to prevent crimes happening to you.  

Taking place from Monday 3rd through to Sunday 9th July, this will be the second week that Citizens Advice has run the campaign in 2023 in a bid to stop scams.

The Scam Awareness Week campaign is designed to create confident and alert customers who can instantly act when they spot a scam – by knowing what to do, you can prevent falling victim to a scam.

All through this week, you can find advice and resources on Citizens Advice website on the actions we can all take to report scams. Plus, there’ll be opportunities to share stories and raise awareness of scams to safeguard yourselves and others.

We have some top tips to protect you from scams:

  • Be wary of handing out personal and financial information
  • Block unwanted calls and messages
  • Verify company details before making a payment
  • Avoid paying upfront
  • Choose a trusted payment method
  • Call 159 to speak directly to your bank if you’re unsure a call from your ‘bank’ is genuine
  • Consult friends and family before taking action

If you are the victim of a scam, it’s a good idea to do the following:

  • Stop all communications
  • Call your bank directly or call 159
  • Report the scam to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040
  • Contact Citizens Advice for further help if needed
