How do I save water in my home?
Posted on: 13 May 24
For the eighth year running, Water Saving Week 13th and 17th May is being hosted by Waterwise, the leading charity in the UK for using water wisely, for the benefit of people and the planet.
The week-long campaign raises awareness of saving both water and money in your home, to understand the value of water and ways we can use it well. During the week, everyone is encouraged to make small changes to their daily routine so that together, we can make a big difference.

What Can Nehemiah Do To Help?
At Nehemiah, we want our tenants to live in affordable, comfortable homes, and to use water well for their benefit and the wider benefit.
To mark Water Saving Week, we have some tips of our own for our tenants, too:
- Ditch the bath
By switching to the shower, most people use less water than in the bath. - Shorten showers
You can save up to £128 per year just by reducing your shower time by 1 minute. - Taps off
When doing the washing up or brushing your teeth, for example, turn the tap off until you actually need the water – and you’ll save approximately 6 litres every minute. - Fill appliances
Try to wait until the dishwasher or washing machine is full before you put it on. - Spot leaks
Leaky taps and toilets waste a lot of water. Spot them early and cut water wastage.
If you have any extra tips on saving water, get in touch with us and we’ll share them during Water Saving Week. Together, we can become more careful and thoughtful with our water use.
