Our New Children's Safeguarding Policy is Here

At Nehemiah Housing, every home we manage is more than a roof over someone’s head — it’s where families grow, children play, and communities come together. That’s why keeping children safe isn’t just a box we tick. It’s a promise we take seriously, in every one of the six West Midlands boroughs we serve.

We have introduced a new Safeguarding Children Policy and Procedure, effective from 26 August 2026. It sets out how Nehemiah will respond to concerns about the safety and wellbeing of children and young people living in, visiting or spending time in our homes and communities.

What does this mean for tenants?

The new policy gives our staff and contractors clear guidance on how to recognise and respond to concerns about a child.

Our updated policy strengthens how we:

• Recognise the signs — helping our teams spot when a child might be at risk of harm, neglect, or abuse
• Respond quickly and appropriately — with clear steps for raising a concern, so nothing falls through the cracks
• Work in partnership — with local authorities, schools, and safeguarding boards across Birmingham, Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Coventry
• Support families — with compassion, respect, and without judgement

This work reflects who we are. Nehemiah Housing was founded on the belief that communities are rebuilt through care, integrity and inclusion — values that sit at the very heart of everything we do.

If you’re worried about a child

If you see or hear something that makes you concerned about a child’s safety or wellbeing, please tell us.

You do not need to be certain that something is wrong before raising a concern. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s better to speak to someone than to stay silent.

Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility

Our new policy is part of our ongoing commitment to providing safe, respectful homes and services for our tenants and their families.

It ispart of our wider Corporate Plan 2025–2030, where excellent, respectful tenant services and the wellbeing of our communities are top priorities.

We will continue to review our approach, listen to feedback and work with our tenants and partners to help make sure children and young people in our communities are safe and supported.
